The main problem was the drivers' handwriting. Truckers aren't as fabled for their lousy penmanship as physicians, but the forms still got "scribbled all over,&qout; as Schick puts it, not to mention getting abused over the course of a short-haul trucker's day. The last vendor standing was Pegasus Imaging and its SmartScan Xpress character-recognition application.
