International Student Identity Card (ISIC) Association was established in 1949 as a non-profit association with the objective to facilitate student mobility, cultural exchanges and learning. The ISIC card is the only international student card that is also endorsed by UNESCO, providing for students over 30,000 specially student tailored discounts (everything from museums, and night clubs, to retail) in 108 countries. The Card is issued to students by universities, student exchange offices and student travel specialists.

Each ISIC card carries a student photo. We needed a component that would allow capturing the student photo, cropping if needed and printing it on the ISIC card. Every year 3-4 million students obtain the ISIC card and it is issued in 108 countries throughout 5,000 issuing locations, using different card personalization technology. Because of the volume, different issuing locations and requirements, we needed a very flexible component that can easily be set up at the client site and allows capturing student photos from different imaging devices and storing the photo on the remote application server.

We are using two products from Pegasus Imaging. CapturePRO helps us capture the photo from virtually any imaging device (solving our worry in developing an application that should be compatible with various imaging devices) and ImagXpress Standard allows us to edit (crop) the photo. Using Pegasus components with our web application we were able to avoid any complicated installation on the user machines as components are installed automatically by the client web browser. This allows us to minimise our biggest worry regarding installation, instructions and support that always happens with any installation process.
