Pegasus Imaging Patents JPEG 2000 Image Compression Speed Optimizations |
| TAMPA, FL, April 29, 2008 – Pegasus® Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of digital image compression technology, today announces it has been granted United States Patent 7,352,903 for its unique methods of implementing JPEG 2000 image compression operations. Enterprises, ISVs, OEMs, VARs, and integrators benefit from Pegasus Imaging’s technical proficiency in speed optimizing image compression. Since 1991, Pegasus Imaging has delivered high speed, high quality, and easy to use standards-based image compression technologies to its customers. The patented JPEG 2000 technology is available within the low-level PICTools™ Software Development Kit (SDK) and within the .NET and ActiveX ImagXpress™ SDK. A license and support agreement may be obtained directly from Pegasus Imaging. The patented speed optimization was invented by Pegasus Imaging’s Scientist Dr. Els Withers, Chief Scientist Dr. John Elton, and Chief Software Architect Jim Bean, with Pegasus Imaging as the assignee. The patent application was first filed in August 2004 and the patent was granted in April 2008. More information can be found at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website. “This invention provides an EBCOT coder/decoder performance boost of 10-20% or more compared to older implementations and it is particularly favorable for the latest Intel CPUs and for implementations in hardware,” says Dr. Elton. The patented implementation of JPEG 2000 image compression is included within two Pegasus Imaging SDKs. PICTools SDKs contain low-level C libraries offering advanced image compression, decompression, and editing; the technologies are supported across multiple 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Sun Solaris. ImagXpress is Pegasus Imaging's comprehensive .NET and ActiveX image processing toolkit designed for document imaging, forms processing, photo and color imaging application development. Complete product descriptions and trial downloads can be found at www.pegasusimaging.com/pictools.htm and www.pegasusimaging.com/imagxpress.htm. Contact Pegasus Imaging for more information.
