Pegasus Introduces JPEG 2000 Software Development Kit
TAMPA, August 20, 2001 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation, a leader in digital imaging technology, today released the first version of the PICTools™ JPEG2000 software development kit. For the first time programmers can test JPEG 2000 compression and decompression in their own applications within the familiar Pegasus PICTools C/C++ software development kit.
The JPEG 2000 development kit is the result of a strategic partnership with Algo Vision plc (EASDAQ:AVSN), also a leading developer of digital image compression and decompression technology. This partnership leverages the experience and research efforts of both companies to develop the most robust JPEG 2000 technology available.
Pegasus and Algo Vision have developed JPEG2000 from the ground up, therefore they have complete understanding and control of every line of code. Both companies contribute scientific expertise by employing in house PhD level scientists specializing in wavelet compression and imaging technology. These highly specialized scientists will facilitate future upgrades and provide support for guaranteed code compliance in the future.
"To the best of our knowledge this is by far the most compliant JPEG technology developed by anyone, anywhere in the world," says Chris Lubeck, director of development at Pegasus.
Jack Berlin, president of Pegasus, added that "The key to our success at Pegasus is the culmination of almost ten years of research and development in the industry. Customers can count on us to not only release something but to continue to keep up with standards, operating system changes, chip enhancements and cross platform development. For commercial projects you can't afford to not use Pegasus."
