Accusoft Pegasus Updates PICTools SDKs for Solaris x86 Platform & JPEG 2000 Enhancements

Today’s release also enhances JPEG-LS support for the medical SDK, adds color document image cleanup for document imaging,
and updates Camera RAW libraries for the photo market.

TAMPA, Fla. - September 22, 2009 - Accusoft Pegasus, the leading provider of imaging software development kits (SDKs), today announces a major update to the PICTools SDKs that provide high-performance C libraries for superior image compression, decompression, and image editing features.

PICTools is now available on the Solaris x86 platform for both 32-bit and 64-bit application development. All features within the PICTools Medical, Document and Photo editions are available for immediate evaluation on the Solaris x86 platform. The PICTools SDKs are also optimized for Windows, Linux, Solaris SPARC, Mac OS X, and IBM AIX.

New features for JPEG 2000 are also included in today's release. A significant speedup to multi-core compression and decompression is included with the largest speedups for lossless and highest-quality lossy images. Speed tests are showing a 10-30% increase in JPEG 2000 multi-core compression and decompression. This speedup features lighter threads, provides better synchronization, and offers more efficiency. Today's release also improves support for gigapixel JPEG 2000 images and enhances metadata support within all JPEG 2000 compressor and decompressor operations.

PICTools Medical now decompresses non-standard, improperly compressed JPEG-LS (JLS) images, such as those created with the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) libraries. Both automatic correction and user notification options are available.

The Camera RAW libraries are updated and the Gamma correction code is improved in the PICTools Photo SDK. Another addition includes enhanced IPTC metadata support for the TIFF, JPEG, and JPEG 2000 formats.

New grayscale and color document image cleanup features are introduced in the PICTools Document SDK, such as automatic color detection, automatic binarization, color drop, and more. Implementation of these features improves the results of scanned images, reduces file sizes, and prepares images for further processing such as OCR.

Enhanced compression of large WSQ images is available within the PICTools Fingerprint SDK.

“PICTools continues to be driven by customer demand. This is especially true for our Solaris x86 product,” says Chris Lubeck, vice president at Accusoft Pegasus. “Today’s release extends the availability of the world’s best image compression to yet another platform.”
