The administrator documentation and tools have been separated from the end user installation, simplifying End User documentation while providing system administrators with documentation and sample code that is focused on their needs. End users receive only documentation targeting general use of the Viewer. The Admin Tools include several important items including:
- Sample HTML for customizing Prizm Viewer display and operation at run time
- Several Image List File examples showing a variety of ways to implement Prizm Viewer’s powerful new list file parameters
- The Prizm Viewer Configuration Application, designed to easily create and update customization instructions for installations
- Full documentation of a Scripting API for programmatic control of Prizm Viewer
- A command line utility designed to convert legacy Prizm Viewer annotations into the Prizm Viewer v8 format is also available upon request.
Additional File Formats |
|
Several additional file formats are now supported including vector-based CAD (DWG, DXF and DWF), optional PDF up to version 1.7, JPEG 2000, AFP (including MO:DCA, PTOCA and ABIC), JBIG2, HD Photo (JPEG XR), Camera Raw and WSQ. Users and administrators may select file types to associate with Prizm Viewer, while System Administrators can designate custom MIME types and file extensions using the new Configuration Application. Prizm Viewer continues to support TIFF, JPEG, PDF, GIF, PNG and many other industry-standard formats.

Support for Windows Vista, Server 2003 and 2008 |
|
Prizm Viewer v8 adds support for Windows Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008 with Internet Explorer 6/7/8 and Firefox 1.5/2/3 browsers, and virtualization solutions such as Terminal Services and Citrix®. Support continues for Windows 2000 and XP.
|
Updated Image List File Format With Enhanced Programmability |
|
A new XML-based Image List File format has been developed that provides support for a variety of new features such as the Table of Contents and customized image display for each image. The XML format allows for easy Image List creation using existing programming tools and document management systems.
|
Table of Contents Display & Navigation |
|
Administrators using Image List Files can now define a hierarchical Table of Contents for each page referenced in an Image List, allowing users to easily navigate to entries they select. Users can also navigate to their selected pages for PDFs or List Files that include TOCs.
|
Configuration Application |
|
A new Configuration Application is provided with the Admin Tools package. A configuration file is created that is used by the installation software to apply the defined settings and create the customized feature set.
It allows administrators to:
- Define specific user interface default layouts and settings
- Customize About Box contents and provide default status line text
- Specify an alternative help file
- Incorporate licensing information for a “push” install
- Restrict users from changing the user interface, to enhance end user support experience
- Restrict access to any specified Prizm Viewer features
Additional Installation Options |
|
Three installation methods are now available to deploy Prizm Viewer to end users. Administrators will appreciate the flexibility offered in the new release:
- Traditional single file download and execute
- Silent installation pushed to end-user desktops using SMS or similar technologies
- NEW – Install directly from a web page when users first visit the page
Scriptable Application Programming Interface (API) |
|
Prizm Viewer v8 provides a scriptable API that allows web objects to interact with Prizm Viewer. Scripted instructions may be sent to the Viewer, current viewer status may be queried, and notifications sent for various operations. The API may also be used by administrators who wish to associate their own toolbar buttons with custom (scripted) actions, or to closely integrate Prizm Viewer with other objects or operations.
| Instantaneous Annotation Storage |
|
A new architecture for annotations storage and retrieval has been created that performs immediate storage of new and revised annotations. The option to revert to original is included to undo annotation changes during the current session. The new architecture allows annotation content to be transmitted to the web server as soon as it is created, allowing for immediate server-side action if needed. Productivity is improved through reduced end user save messages.
| New Annotation Server Product |
|
The Prizm Annotation Server is an option available to purchase. It is designed for administrators who need to implement web server-based annotation storage and retrieval. Annotation storage modules for Windows ASP.NET servers and Java-based components are provided in source code form for integration into most any document management or database back-end.
