AUTOMATIC RED EYE REMOVAL DEMONSTRATED BY PEGASUS IMAGING AT PMA 2006

TAMPA, FL, February 27, 2006 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation today announces it will be demonstrating its automatic red eye removal technology at the 2006 Photo Marketing Association (PMA) exhibition. The company has developed an algorithm for automatically finding and removing unwanted red eyes from images. This technology will be available within ImagXpress™ Photo v8 and PICTools™ Photo software development kits (SDK’s).

“OEM’s, online photo services, kiosk software companies, and imaging application developers will all potentially benefit from Pegasus Imaging’s auto red eye removal technology,” says Marc Brechwald, business development manager at Pegasus Imaging Corporation. “As our extensive research and development period concludes, we are very excited to offer this powerful imaging technology.”

The Pegasus algorithm is designed to quickly detect red eye regions and determine their locations and borders on an image. It is fine tuned to minimize the number of "false positive" regions that other algorithms seem to find as red eyes which are really polka dots or red fingernails. The Pegasus algorithm will provide the application with a list of red eye regions and the associated "confidence level" for each region, supporting automated removal based on set criteria. Once red eye regions are located, it is important to be able to control the correction factors to be applied. This technology provides control over the repair method with properties that correspond to the level of glare removal, control over output pupil lightness, and aggressiveness of eye boundary usage.

In addition to auto red eye removal, Pegasus Imaging will also introduce its Camera RAW support, alpha channel support, and auto image enhancement tools within both ImagXpress Photo v8 and PICTools Photo. ImagXpress Photo is a comprehensive .NET imaging SDK. PICTools Photo offers low-level access to the technology as a cross-platform C/C++ imaging SDK.
