Pegasus Imaging Corporation Announces Server Image Reformatting Technology
TAMPA, FL, April 11, 2001 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation, a leader in Digital Imaging Technology, today announced the introduction of its new Server Image Reformatting Technology for immediate testing and evaluation. This technology fluidly enables the transport of Internet images to appliances such as handheld computers, PDAs, set-top boxes, and smart phones. Server Image Reformatting from Pegasus resides on common portal sites ("proxy servers") with the capability of deployment on several different architectures.
The key features of this new Pegasus technology are:
- The ability to simultaneously reformat many images using concurrent threads or instances. The Pegasus tools support this through both multi-instance and concurrent threads support on Win32, Solaris SPARC, and Linux-Intel operating systems.
- The ability to specify the resulting image quality/data size The Pegasus tools support this for both GIF and JPEG data. JPEG Data is optimized using Pegasus' unique JPEG Wizard technology that avoids "generational-loss". GIF images, both single frame and animated, are optimized by using color reduction techniques. Pegasus' video-speed color reduction and compression code play a critical part in this process.
- The ability to resize the dimensions of the output image Pegasus' experience with patented scaling technology and the capability of performing scaling operations in multiple color spaces make the difference in these processes. Scaling routines are utilized that work in the appropriate color space avoiding color space conversion routines and the loss incurred there in both speed and quality.
- The ability to minimize the total throughput time to the client. There are many factors at work here. Certainly code speed is critical. Even more important is the streaming nature of the tools. For each operation, the emphasis is placed on being able to begin to deliver the most desirable output as early as possible in the overall process. This minimizes server memory requirements and maximizes observed throughput to the client.
"Server Image Reformatting technology gives rise to vast opportunities for Pegasus Imaging. This product has generated huge levels of interest from some very large providers in spite of minimal publicity. Our existing customers say they are extremely pleased with the performance and scalability of this new set of tools. We are very optimistic that our customers will make use of its enormous commercial value potential," commented Russ Puskaric, director of sales for Pegasus.
