SMARTSCAN XPRESS™ BARCODE VERSION 4 LAUNCHED BY PEGASUS IMAGING

TAMPA, FL, April 5, 2005 - Pegasus Imaging today announces the latest version of the SmartScan Xpress Barcode software development kit has just been released to provide improved support for document indexing and process automation applications. This managed .NET control and COM component supports common industry 1D and 2D barcodes. Pegasus Imaging's talented team of scientists and engineers has further improved the engine for the Version 4 release. Recognition has increased by up to 50% on noisy, hard-to-read images and the .NET interface has improved.

"This is the first product release to integrate superior image cleanup technologies from TMSSequoia, a company we recently purchased," says Jack Berlin, president of Pegasus Imaging. "Our goal is to continually rise above the average developer toolkit company and solidify our position as the leading provider of imaging technology toolkits in the world. Our customers will see the benefits of this corporate strategy in this release of improved barcode recognition and image processing algorithms."

Pegasus Imaging's scientists have made significant advances to improve the recognition of noisy, hard-to-read barcodes. The barcode recognition process has been improved by extending the mathematical algorithms used for barcode detection, and extending the process used to refine and verify candidate barcodes. Version 4 now reports confidence values for detected barcodes so developers can easily identify the quality of scanned barcodes.

Superior image cleanup technology recently acquired from TMSSequoia is now bundled with SmartScan Xpress Barcode. ScanFix® Lite, a separate control, ships with the new version. It includes features such as deskew, despeckle, negate, flip, rotate, line removal, rectangle crop and more.

Pegasus Imaging is delivering an improved object oriented .NET interface that significantly enhances ease of use for .NET developers. Using Version 4, C# developers will enjoy an object oriented approach not available in Version 3. Pegasus revised the underlying architecture to provide a common worker code base used by ActiveX and .NET APIs, ensuring consistency of function across the development platforms, while optimizing the interface for each environment.

Developers will be able to provide optional configuration settings affecting the detection speed, including number of barcodes expected, barcode orientation, and potential location of barcodes. This flexibility in search parameters can improve the speed of barcode detection.
